  1. Tomatoes - Summer’s Favorite Superfood

    July 28, 2009 by michelle

It’s that time of year when fresh and summer sweet tomatoes ripen on the vine for picking. You can serve tomatoes the simplest way possible - slice them thick and drizzle with olive oil and a bit of salt and fresh pepper. Yum! Or enjoy one of these recipes and savor the last month of summer.

Do not store tomatoes in the refrigerator: the cold air will kill the taste and the flesh will become mushy.

Is your garden overflowing with ripe tomatoes?  Send us your favorite tomato recipe!

  2. Cooking Quick and Easy Family Dinners with the Kids

July 16, 2009 by susan and michelle

The perfect solution to spending time with the kids and still getting a home cooked meal on the table is to let them help prepare the meal. Kids love to help in the kitchen and they will be much more likely to eat that chicken dinner if they helped make it. They will develop a knowledge of how to cook with fresh ingredients and a love of healthy food while applying some practical math skills. Here’s some simple and safe tasks for your young sous chefs.

    • Washing Fruits and Veggies
    • Measuring
    • Reading Directions
    • Stirring and Whisking
    • Cracking and Separating Eggs
    • Assembling Their Culinary Creation
    • Cleaning Up!!

  6. Watermelon Everywhere

July 5, 2009 by susan and michelle

Stay hydrated this summer by sucking down some juicy, sweet watermelon.  Did you know that watermelon is 92% water?  Hand your kids a slice of watermelon instead of a juice box to quench their thirst and cool them off.   Puree watermelon and make homemade slushees or throw some watermelon in your favorite salads, salsas, and drinks.  Here are some of our favorite watermelon recipes:
