• 1 1/2 cup(s) milk • 6 large egg(s) • 1 tsp orange zest, grated • 1/2 tsp vanilla • 1 tbsp honey • 1/2 tsp kosher salt • 1 loaf challah bread • 2 tbsp unsalted butter • 2 tbsp vegetable oil • 2 cup(s) maple syrup
|  | 1. Slice the challah into 8, 3/4 inch thick, slices.
2. In a large shallow bowl, whisk together the milk (or half n half), eggs, orange zest, vanilla, honey and salt.
3. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Soak the slices of bread in the egg mixture for 2 minutes per side.
4. Heat 1 tbsp unsalted butter and 1 tbsp oil in a very large skillet over medium heat. Add the soaked bread and cook for 3 minutes per side, until nicely browned. Repeat until all the bread is toasted, adding butter and oil as needed. Keep French toast in oven until all of it is cooked and ready to serve.
5. Serve with hot maple syrup. |
